The story

Romain Gratiot is the creator of the design studio Irrational Flames.

An architect by training, he graduated from ENSA Versailles in 2021 and began his career in an agency, where he quickly encountered a practice that was too far removed from his ideals. From this disillusionment was born the desire to forge his own path and, in 2023, he founded Irrational Flames, a studio that combines design, manufacturing, and object publishing, with the ambition of improving the quality of life through the pleasure provided by design.

Passionate about 3D printing, he pushes its limits to create freely, at the scale of the object, guided by his architect's eye. Inspired by a trip to Venice, where he discovered his artistic soul, he designed a first collection of lighting fixtures whose promise is to invite whoever owns them to embark on a sensory journey, like so many escapes from the chaos of everyday life.

In 2024, Romain took a new step forward by designing the Iris lamp for the artist Natacha Birds. The creation was an immediate success: several hundred copies sold worldwide in just a few months, and a notable spotlight in Blumenhaus magazine.

Based in Versailles, he continues to design objects born from this sensitive dialogue, where his architectural influences and his dual expertise as a designer and manufacturer come together to give shape to the breath of life that animates creative minds.

Through Irrational Flames, Romain defends the mission of art by creating objects that carry meaning, designed to anchor themselves permanently in the hearts of their users and awaken their imagination through moments of contemplation, thanks to the universe of the artists they carry with them.

First offered exclusively online, his objects are now present at Fleux, Portobello, L'Appartement Français and other highly inspiring places .
