The story

Romain Gratiot is the creator of the design studio Irrational Flames .

Trained as an architect, and a graduate of ENSA Versailles in 2021, he began his career in an agency, where he quickly found himself in a profession too far removed from his ideals. From this disillusionment arose the desire to forge his own path, and in 2023, he founded Irrational Flames , a studio where design, manufacturing, and publishing converge, with the mission of revealing the passion that lies dormant in the heart of every artist.

Fascinated by 3D printing for years, this technique has become the simplest way to realize his vision, allowing him to create freely, on the scale of the object, while nurturing his taste for experimentation.

Inspired by a trip to Venice, where he discovered his artistic soul, he designed a first collection of lighting fixtures inviting everyone to embark on a sensory and narrative journey, as so many escapes from the chaos of everyday life.

In 2024, Romain took another step forward by designing the IRIS lamp for the artist Natacha Birds . This creation was an immediate success, with several hundred units sold worldwide and a notable feature in Blumenhaus magazine.

His experience at the House of Louis Vuitton in 2025, where he contributed to the creation of exceptional pieces, refines his sense of detail and introduces him to the demands of luxury.

Based in Versailles, he continues today to design objects stemming from this sensitive dialogue, where his architectural influences and his dual expertise as a designer and manufacturer unite to give form to the breath of life that animates creative minds.

Through Irrational Flames, Romain champions the vocation of art by imagining objects designed to take root permanently in the hearts of their users, thanks to their poetic design and the fragments of stories they carry with them.

Initially offered exclusively online, his objects are now present at Fleux , Portobello , l'Appartement Français , and other highly inspiring locations.
