ABOUT

VISION.

Irrational Flames means "irrational flames."

This name can evoke both the atmosphere of the places, the character of the objects that comprise them, and the passion of those who create them.

In this perspective, Irrational Flames designs inhabited objects.

An inhabited object is founded on a narrative, rooted in the lived experience of body and mind. By allowing its material to speak, the inhabited object doesn't just serve us: it inspires us.

This design vision embraces the unforeseen, the unexpected, the asperities that form the backdrop of our most cherished memories. For while no one wishes to add chaos to their daily lives, everyone has the right to bring an extra touch of soul to it.

CREATOR.

Romain Gratiot (born in 1995) is a state-certified architect from ENSA Versailles in 2021. He lives and works in France.

After two years spent at the multidisciplinary architecture studio Projectiles, he confronted the gap between the academic teaching of architecture and the reality of its professional practice, which he deemed incapable of fully fulfilling its primary vocation: making our living spaces more habitable.

In 2023, driven by the sense of freedom inspired by a trip to Venice, he decided to re-deploy his skills and architectural influences at the scale of objects by founding Irrational Flames. Driven by the notion of atmosphere, he specializes in the creation of lighting fixtures.

His IRIS lamp, inspired by Antoni Gaudí's approach and now distributed internationally, embodies this shift in scale as much as his phenomenological approach to design.
